How can I become a Nutrition/Dietetics Major at Sac State?

The Nutrition and Dietetics majors are under the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Department of the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies. The FACS Department main office is located on the third floor of Mariposa Hall, room 3000. All inquiries regarding change or declaration of major and course fulfillments for the Nutrition/Dietetics pathways can be found at this office. 

What is the #FANFam?

The Food & Nutrition family (shortened to "Fan Fam) is the term we use to describe out little foodie community. It means that we are a group of friends sharing our experience with food and health, and helping other pursue our career, academic, and other goals. 

What is "Farm to Fork"?

Today, the Sacramento region’s Farm-to-Fork Program serves as a year-round platform to highlight the farms, restaurants, organizations and individuals that contribute to the local culinary and agricultural landscapes. The program is housed within the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and works to increase awareness of the region’s unmatched prowess when it comes to fresh food.

What is PHE?

PHE stands for Peer Health Educator. Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) at the Well offers a year-long internship allowing students to promote student health through presedntation and counseling sessions in one of four wellness areas. It is common for our nutrition and dietetics members to participate in the Nutrition PHE internship, which accepts applications at the end of every spring semester. All students are welcome to attend presentations, cooking demonstrations, and personal diet analysis sessions offered by the Nutrition PHEs. 

What is CAND?

CAND Stands for the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This is our own state's branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), which is the national organization. CAND champions policies and regulations that protect consumers of nutrition services, endorse a strong scope of practice of RDNs and DTRs in California, support the roles of RDNs and DTRs in the delivery of healthcare in California, and ensure and promote informed food decisions by the public. It is a great idea for Dietetic students in their undergraduate studies to join as a student member! See their website for membership and other details. 

What is NADA?

NADA stand for Northern Area Dietetic Association. This is a professional organizationfor dietitians and pre-dietetics students promoting optimal health and nutrition in our communities in Northern California. All Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics members can become NADA members. The volunteer leaders who serve on the NADA Board of Directors strive to support the continuing professional education and social networking needs of Registered Dietitians (RDs), Diet Technicians-Registered (DTRs), dietetic interns and nutrition students.
