ABOUT FAN CLUB

The Food & Nutrition Club is a student-run organization at Sacramento State University serving the needs of students with an interest in health and a passion for food.

​

Our mission is to unite Sacramento State students pursuing careers and lifestyles centered on health, wellness, and food. Through professional opportunities and acts of public service, we strive to expand our campus community's understanding of food and its impact on all aspects of life. Our goal is to enrich the experience of membership by helping our fellow students accomplish their career goals, develop confidence in leadership, and educate the campus community.

2018-2019

Nneka Omekam

President

Nneka is a first year Graduate Student getting her Masters of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. She graduated with her Bachelors in Dietetics and minor in Biological Sciences from California State University, Sacramento the Summer of 2018. She is a big lover of life and the uncertainties that come along with each day. She first joined FAN Club Fall 2016, stating that it fostered the academic and fun environment that she needed during stressful times in the semester. She was Vice President for FAN Club for the 2017-2018 academic year and is now the President of FAN Club for the 2018-2019 academic year. Her favorite hobbies include running and cooking new recipes.

Canela Celis

Vice President

Canela is a junior double majoring in Dietetics and Women's Studies. Her pronouns are she/her/hers and she has been a FAN Club member since she transferred here in the Fall of 2017. She is also a Peer Health Educator with the Student Health & Counseling Services at The WELL. Canela loves her four pets and is always looking for new vegetarian recipes. She is a big advocate for self-care and particularly loves a good book and some tea.

Casey Whitmore

Treasurer

Casey is going into his 5th year and is a Dietetics major. He is a fitness enthusiast and has a passion for Nutrition. Casey joined the club to network with other students who are passionate about Nutrition. He also finds Nutrition an endless realm of knowledge, and that’s what keeps him so invested in studying it.

Viviana Gonzales

Secretary

Hello everyone! Viviana's pronouns are she/her/hers. She is the Food and Nutrition clubs secretary. This will be her second year attending Sac state as a transfer student and she is majoring in Dietetics. She is a Food Pantry Operations Coordinator and her roles are to take care of many daily operations to make sure the Food Pantry runs smoothly. You can also find her in Student health and counseling services as a Peer Health Educator Intern. As a PHE we try to educate other fellow Hornets on how to live a healthy lifestyle. We do so by using the 7 dimensions of wellness which include physical, emotional, socio-cultural,financial/career, spiritual, environmental and intellectual. She extremely excited to be apart of such a great campus club and hope to meet others who enjoy food and Nutrition as much as she does! Candace Alop

Public Relations Director

Candace's pronouns are she/her/ hers. She is a proud Sac State student majoring in Food and Nutrition as a senior. She is active within the campus and has become a Peer Health Education for Student Health and Counseling Services located at the Well. Within balancing her roles as an student, intern, officer and employee she practices self care such as journaling, going to the gym, eating hot cheetos and spending quality time with close ones. She hopes that one day, her knowledge will impact other to feel empowered and spread awareness in developing a larger community. One secret she will share is to join a club to access meeting people who have the similar interests to begin networking. She open to any questions and her emails are always open.

Fatima Zardkoohi

Historian

Fatima is a senior who has a passion for Nutrition and Natural Medicine. She is also a Peer Health Educator for Student Health & Counseling Services on campus advocating for the seven dimensions of wellness which include Physical Wellness, Spiritual Wellness, Emotional Wellness, and others. She enjoys helping others learn more about their health, loves to read and watch documentaries about the food industry in her free time. She joined the Food and Nutrition Club in Spring 2018 in order to network and meet like-minded people. She is also certain that this is going to be a great academic year!
